Intensive 1 Day Beginner’s Jewellery Making Class

Course Description

This class is suitable for complete beginners as well as those with some jewellery making experience. I keep the class sizes small (no more than 3 students) so whether you need a little more support or want to learn something more challenging, I will be able to offer all the tuition you need.

You will be introduced to the basic techniques of working with silver and making jewellery, including:

Cutting and filing (with piercing saw and files) - Metal forming using hammers and pliers - Soldering - Surface manipulation (texturing & decoration) - Using findings - Finishing and polishing.

In the afternoon you will start working on your own piece of silver jewellery. You can make rings, pendants, earrings, brooches, bangles - pretty much anything you can think of. Your only limitation will be the time available to us so I will advise on the day if we need to scale back your ambitions. (In reality I’m terrible at this bit and actually encourage you to make wildly ambitious designs with incredible results - it’s more fun like that!)

This is the class to choose if you want total freedom in the jewellery you make. Whether you have firm ideas or don't have a clue where to begin I can help you with the design process and turn your ideas in to reality.

Benefits
  • Included within the price of the class is £20 worth of Sterling Silver for you to work with. This is generally LOADS for most designs but if you need more that’s not a problem, you can pay a little extra for more of the shiney stuff on the day.
  • If the jewellery making bug really bites and you’d like to practise your new found skills at home, you will benefit from the following extras included with this class:
  • Handout ‘The Beginner’s Toolkit’ - my personal recommendations of what to buy and where from
  • 10% discount at the UK’s leading precious metal and jewellery tool supplier Cookson Gold
  • Technical Notes - summarising all the basic skills you’ll learn on the day because it’s a lot to remember!
Requirements
  • Suitable for complete beginners or those with some jewellery making experience. If you would like to learn more advanced skills or receive some support to develop your own practise contact me directly to discuss options.
